BIOGRAPHICAL PROFILE

Rev. Dr. MAJOR A. STEWART

Pastor Major A. Stewart is a native of Muskegon, Michigan. He was educated in the Muskegon/Muskegon Heights Public Schools and was a star athlete participating in football and wrestling. He received Christ as Savior in 1973. In 1978 he Co-founded the Urban League Juniors of Greater Muskegon. Pastor Stewart moved to Flint in 1984 after being recruited by General Motors as an Accountant.  In 1986 God’s call to the Ministry of Jesus Christ was so pressing that he confessed his calling to preach the Gospel and was licensed at Golden Leaf Missionary Baptist Church (now Promise Tabernacle Baptist Church) in Flint, Michigan. He later was licensed to preach in 1992 at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Oxnard, California and was ordained in December 1995. Rev. Stewart is married to the lovely Carla Brooks Stewart and they are the parents of three beautiful daughters Alexandria Janine, Mikaela Ann, and Karissa Danielle.

 

Pastor Stewart has served in the gospel ministry in various capacities including: Youth Pastor at Golden Leaf Missionary Baptist Church, Associate Minister and Singles Coordinator at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Oxnard, CA; and as Assistant Pastor of the following Churches: Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Jacksonville, FL;  Second Baptist Church in Worcester, MA;  the historical 19th Street Baptist Church in Philadelphia, PA; He also served as an intern for the New Hope Baptist Church in Muskegon, MI; He was Senior Pastor at Gethsemane Baptist Church in Flint, MI. 

Pastor Stewart holds a Bachelors of Business Administration from Eastern Michigan University (1983); Masters of Business Administration from California Lutheran University (1992);  Masters of Arts in Christian Education from the Michigan Theological Seminary (2003); and a Doctorate of Ministry from the United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio (2004). 

He has experience in congregational mission development: having traveled to Turkey/Asia Minor (Traced footsteps of Apostle Paul) in 2001 and West Africa, Monrovia, Liberia on a mission team in 2005 and recently to Israel with United Theological Seminary Pilgrimage Team August 2009.  Pastor Stewart is currently spearheading a strategy to reduce Church debt, enhance training of Ministers, improve the structure of church ministries, and to implement new marketing strategies for Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church.
